Stillwater Lake Dam Update

Construction nears completion on the Stillwater Lake Dam renovation project at Camp Minsi. Construction on the Stillwater Lake Dam has moved into its final phase and the 300-foot long roller compacted concrete dam is nearly complete. The best news of all it that the 314-acre Stillwater Lake is now refilling with water and will be ready for swimming, sailing, and boating this summer!

Construction, which began in September, was slowed by wetter than expected weather during the fall and winter. As a result, the lake completely refilled during several storms that hit the Poconos. With a little cooperation from the weather, construction will wrap up soon and the lake will be refilled in just a few weeks.

Additional fundraising to cover the remaining construction costs is taking place. Minsi Trails Council would like to thank you to all the municipalities, organizations, legislators, public officials and individuals who helped make this project a reality.

However Stillwater Lake is not the only thing filling up fast; reservations for the 2011 camping season are also filling up, so be sure to register for summer camp at Camp Minsi soon. We hope you and your Scouts can enjoy the lake and everything that Camp Minsi has to offer this summer and for many summers to come.

New High Adventure Logo Celebrates History of Local Scouting Adventures

Above you'll see the logo for our new high adventure programs. Participants in the summer high adventure programs will earn one of these patches along with an exclusive "rocker" pannel for their specific program. The high adventure patch, plus shirts and other items, will also be available for purchase in the trading post throughout the summer.

Recognize the design? If you are a "seasoned Scouter" or a Scouting history buff, then you may recognize the logo's design from Camp Weygadt. 90 years ago this summer, way back in 1921, Camp Weygadt began offering exciting summer camp programs for the Scouts of what is now Minsi Trails Council's Forks of the Delaware and Pocono districts. The premier Scout reservation was located along the Delaware River in the Delaware Water Gap. The property was the original home of Camp Minsi before the Bethlehem Area Council moved it's camp to its own property the Poconos. Sadly, in 1968, Camp Weygadt was forced to sell their property, however many of the camp's resources and legacies have been able to live on at Camp Minsi. For example, the cannon used in the parade field was originally from Camp Weygadt and funds from Weygadt have supported many projects at Camp Minsi — including the expansion and dedication of the "Weygadt Trust Dining Hall" in 2007.

Just as Scouts were introduced to a new summer adventures at Camp Weygadt 90 years, today Scouts and Venturers of the Minsi Trails Council are once again being introduced to new kinds of summer adventure – high adventure. It seems only fitting that we preserve just a bit of our past as we jump into the future.

And it's not too late to join the adventures! If you are looking for a challenge beyond the traditional summer camp experiences, check out our great high adventure summer camp opportunities.
